“Tanjore painting is a traditional art form which originated in the southern state of Tamilnadu in India. During the 17th century, this art form was patronised by the kings. The painings depict the various Gods and Goddesses from the Hindu Mythology.
The speciality of the painting lies in the relief work which creates the 3D effect and the usage of 24 carat pure gold foil on top of the relief work. Also precious stones like Ruby Emerald and diamonds were originally used. In modern days, the kundan stones have replaced the precious stones, however the gold foil and the relief work remains the same. Similarly the artisans used paints made of vegetable dyes which is currently replaced by Poster colors.”
