I started my formal Art education from Kalamandir Mahavidyalay in Kolhapur. Underwent the first year training and even passed out the exams. But I, was not mentally happy as there were students from all over the country and each one would appreciate their own artwork. But I continued my training with sincerity. This paid off as I won the first place in my academic second year. I got to learn new things and was also attracted towards Beauty Science, and began participating in more and more competitions. I was not successful initially but got broader exposure of senior students' artwork, also exposed to other cities and art colleges apart from my own & got the opportunity to visit the workshops of experienced painters, which also influenced my
work. While at the art School I, had the good fortune of being trained by some of the best and experienced teachers for which I'm extremely thankful . I was not very fond of competitions as they meant victory or loss, whereas workshops gave experience and taught me a lot. In spite of this I had won many prizes in
competitions. Apart from this also got the opportunity to attend the Nehru Center Camp at Kuchh- Bhuj in Gujarat, meant for realistic landscaping. The work was also exhibited. Since I'm from Kolhapur, its realistic culture influenced my paintings as I worked on realistic portraits and landscapes. I would do landscaping and
sketching after art school and learn something new all the time. Though realistic art was good in its own way, I started studying the self portraits and works of contemporary artists. This increased my confidence on contemporary art, along with new ideas and creativity. I started working along the lines of contemporary art and titled my art as “Amavasye cha Chandra” (“The Dark Night Eclipse”).
It did not go down well as some people blame me for that title, but I went ahead with my new found interest. I diverted from realistic art towards creative art and became more and more attracted towards nature, its various shapes and colors. I found my love in understanding nature and representing it in my art. Now the depression that I had initially felt started fading away. Then came the final year project, while choosing for which I realized that the entire way of art represents the human psyche, that art is produced from the various parts of the mind.
I studied a little bit of human psychology to take my interest a little further. I came across Sigmund Frued's theory on “the conscious and unconscious mind”. While on this quest, I also understood the importance of meditation and was influenced by Buddhist thoughts. All these changed my outlook towards life. This quest also made me realize that there was something beyond the human mind too. I, started realizing the difference
between me and the other's outlook towards life, representation of this in art was not really understood by people around me. Eventually this method was appreciated and hailed as modern art by many.I had always been critical of abstract art. I would always find them silly, but little did I was knowing that one day I would venture into abstract art himself! Art is divided into several divisions. However, for me art has no sub divisions. The only thing that mattered was the experience through which the art was produced. I like all kinds of paintings and arts but expresses myself in my own unique way.
