INTRODUCTION

I'm a contemporary painter by profession, working in the field of art and design for the past 18 years. I hail from Bihar and my roots are in Madhubani, a district of North Bihar, internationally known for the vivid and vibrant panorama of tradition, embedded in the folk paintings of the Mithila region. I graduated in Sanskrit and received professional training in fine arts. I was inspired, both by the intricate simplicity of the folk art, which I inherited and the vibrancy of modern masters. Eventually I developed my style, which has a balanced influence of both. I prefer working with acrylic on stretched canvas and paper. Every piece of my work has minute and intricate detailing which reflects the skill and multiple layering/patching on selective areas reflects the understanding of the palette and mood.

I am best known for my experimentation with Madhubani paintings for quite some time now. I have developed a style using contemporary subjects and modern medium to express the feelings of traditional Madhubani paintings in a different dimension. Currently, I am working on the subject ‘hijras’ (eunuchs) in Madhubani style to explore and experiment with their feelings in paintings. My explorations with the folk forms and elements have evolved into a signature style where feelings, emotions, elements, intricacies and tradition are merged with current subjects, modern medium and contemporary skill, in a diversified dimension.
