‘Translate’ is a concept-clothing label, works with regional Ikat artisans in transforming the traditional weaving skills to ethical aesthetic wear.
IKAT is a celebrated weaving art where the warp, weft or both are tied-dyed before weaving to create designs on the finished fabric. Utmost care is given to the precision in tying resist areas with water repellent materials before each thread is dyed to its role in pattern. The natural movement during weaving creates a feathered edge pattern that characterizes the hallmark of Ikat.

The primary focus of ‘Translate’ is to revive the age-old regional art of Ikat; bringing it to a larger audience through weaving, designing, producing and retailing under one umbrella.

Unlike the commercial production process, the idea of an outfit at ‘Translate’ doesn’t start at design level — it begins as a shared effort between the designer and the weaver. Each outfit is carefully handcrafted using the finest cotton yarn through the process of tying, dyeing, weaving and sewing. Special process of VAT dye is used to make the textile skin friendly, then washed, shrunk and softened to ensure they are colourfast proof. This makes each wear at ‘Translate’ goes through its own journey, for that matter a unique story to share.

‘Translate’ takes the traditional regionals hand-weaving skills to sustainable, functional and sensible ready-to-wear clothing. This is one of its kinds in attempt to reintroduce hand-woven textile to suit urban, chic and comfortable everyday fashion.

The clothing collection caters to all age group of women. The assortment consists of everything, ranging from kurtis, sarees, stoles, dupattas, scarves, tunics, shirts, bottoms, accessories and kids wear. The outfits are classic, minimalistic and have more emphasis on effortless styling.

A range of these hand-woven clothing collections are available at the only ‘Translate’ store situated at Jubilee Hills, Hydearabad. The brand is cofounded by the dynamic duo Vinita and Vikas Passary in summer 2012. Vinita brings her huge experience in fashion and retail with her much admired label ‘Anonym’, whereas Vikas, an award-winning restaurateur contributes his business acumen.

Like any revival movement, ‘Translate’ is built upon its team strength. A wide range of skills, commitment and vision weaved within the people at ‘Translate’ who have the passion and respect for hand-woven textile. The common goal is to ‘be the change’ for the change we wish to see in the world of clothing.

Product properties and wash care
All of Translate's products are handcrafted using the finest natural fibers. The subtle variations in color, texture and finish are intrinsic to hand made products. Our products involve crafts-based traditions of tie and dye and handloom weaving. We use Azo free chemica dyes with the goal of minimizing our impact on the environment while striving for the best color properties. An irregular weave or print is not a defect - handloom by definition means uncertainty when it comes to uniformity.
