INTRODUCTION
Vandeepp Kalra is an artist brand that practices mosaics as an art form and provides eclectic yet elegant home décor products. Her studio at Kolkata has an unusual range of mosaic canvases, mirrors, wall art & gift items. Conceived by mosaic artist and the brand’s namesake Vandeepp Kalra, the studio creates a niche for itself in the home décor realm with handcrafted items.
A piece of mosaic art is extremely time consuming and takes one to two months to make, depending on the size and intricacy of the work. The studio imports exemplary quality mosaic tiles and stained glass from europe as well as sourcing from India.
The process of making mosaic art is highly labor intensive and involves four steps. The first step is composing & designing an outline. The second step has artist Vandeepp Kalra manually cutting the glass tiles to the desired shape and size and pasting on the substrate. The third step is grouting, which is to fill in the crevices in the piece. The final step entails polishing the artwork to perfection, before it can be showcased in homes or offices.
The studio offers product customization to cater to client specifications as their mission is to create an everlasting experience for its patrons. They specialize in handcrafting mosaic portraits that flawlessly capture all kinds of silhouettes.

Vandeepp Kalra ia a mosaic artist hailing from Kolkata; Mosaic is the art of meticulously putting together hand-cut tesserae(glass mosaic tiles) to form various shapes and patterns. What started as a hobby became an obsession and eventually her career.
Vandeepp Kalra’s love for mosaic art is a patchwork of her experimenting nature, delving in different forms of art, and striving to create a unique form of art out of fine pieces of glass.
Vandeepp’s art pieces are mostly inspired by her life experiences.
Color plays an important role in her compositions and at times becomes the subject itself. Through her compositions, she tries to create an engaging discourse between the viewer and the work; a discourse guided by the luminosity and depth of the glass (mosaic), that is painstakingly cut and deliberately placed against each other to form a coherent whole.
Vandeepp’s dedication towards the art is witnessed in the minute detailing in her work. Through these details, she creates a narrative that weaves an enthralling experience of discovery for the viewer. The painter in her keeps the movement and the fluidity of the subject alive, which is a challenge to achieve considering the static nature of the glass. This is essentially the real beauty of mosaic art.
