Sanjhi, is the art of cutting designs on paper, a tradition of art that originated out of the cult of Krishna and flourished in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Traditionally, motifs from the Krishna stories are created in stencil and used to decorate spaces. The cutting process is a skilful work and it requires lot of concentration and patience. Specially designed scissors are used to achieve the finesse.
At one time this art was believed to be practiced extensively over Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat but now it survives only in Mathura.
My next collection is inspired by this unique Sanjhi Art form the Land of Lord Krishna.
It is a unique combination of Fine Silver Cutwork with brass sheets fitted at the back to give a beautiful effect of Silver and Gold!!
Length is 3.5 cms apprx.
