Sadhana Raddi
INTRODUCTION

Sadhana Raddi was born and educated in Mumbai. She is a double postgraduate, having obtained her Master’s degree in Psychology as well as in Ancient Indian Culture. On completion of her Government Diploma in Drawing and Painting, she participated in more than ten group shows. She also held her first solo show in Mumbai in 1997 and has been exhibiting her work alone almost every year since then. Sadhana is an abstract artist who holds a position amongst the very talented younger set of painters on the Indian art scene today. Her recent works, a series titled "Seasons", were inspired by John Keats’ poem called ‘The Human Seasons’. Since the canvas for Sadhana is but an extension of her own feelings and emotions, her paintings reflect the whole range of human expressions. Like the changing seasons in nature, Raddi depict the changing ‘human seasons’ or human emotions. Feeling intensely for both nature and the people around her, this artist uses bright colours and strong textures to bring to the canvas what she feels in her soul. From vivid oranges and blues to the earthy tones of brown and olive green, Sadhana Raddi uses layers of different colours on her surfaces to convey exactly and expressively the different seasons of human nature. Not being able to find a term for these complex blends of color and emotion, Sadhana leaves her canvases untitled. Looking at Sadhana’s work, it is clear that she has matured greatly from the time of her first exhibitions in the mid 1990s. Learning from her environment, and growing as it grows, Raddi deserves all the praise that has been sung about her paintings recently. One of the greatest achievements of this young artist was to have her work sold in an auction held by Sotheby's of London in 1998, only a year after her first solo show. She has also been invited by the Birla Academy of Arts and Culture to participate in the "Young Faces in Indian Contemporary Indian Art 1999" show and was also a participa
