The Crafty Environmentalist
INTRODUCTION

The Crafty Environmentalist brings to you art with a heart that beats for the environment. The sculptures and art collages are unique, individual pieces meticulously crafted out of polymer clay and papercrete combined with waste materials such as empty glass and plastic bottles, empty tetrapaks, compacted polythene bags, compacted plastic waste and packaging cardboard and thermacol. Each piece is meant as a metaphor for human life and seeks to demonstrate that it is always possible to find patterns, shape, beauty, growth and meaning in anything that life throws our way. About the Owner: My name is Manjul and I live in Gurgaon. The Crafty Environmentalist is born out of my concern for the environment. It began with a challenge to myself to reduce the quantum of waste I as an individual and a householder was throwing out into the world. A few weeks into this resolve I found myself overwhelmed by the amount of waste an average urban family like mine generates. Even though I carried cloth bags for shopping and composted my kitchen waste, the sheer volume of packaging waste that could collect in a few days came as a shock to me. Practically everything we use for our daily needs - flour, pulses, rice, oil, milk, juices, eggs, coffee, tea, shampoos, soaps, detergents etc. come to us in plastic and other non-biodegradable wrapping. Add to that the bubble wrap and cardboard overload created by online shopping. As an experiment, I began to turn my waste into art objects. Each object I create is doubly beautiful to me, as it reduces the damage caused to the soil and water by plastic waste.
