Vishwajyoti is an abstract and floral artist. While painting flowers comes naturally to her as flowers have been part of her formative years, abstraction springs from a recurrent, more mature desire to get away from the obvious into the world of pure, non-representative art. Vishwajyoti’s romance with flowers began while working in various gardens and afforestation programs as part of her school projects. This love continues; she feels that flowers are the most beautiful and easily accessible reflection of Nature’s creativity. Today, when many people spend most of their time behind desks, surrounded by walls and electronic gadgetry, she attempts by painting flowers to bring some of Nature’s beauty back indoors. She did, however, reach a point when representational art appeared too restrictive and figurative art over-represented and even banal at times. Looking at her own works and the art happening around her gave her the sense of ‘seen it all before’. This was when she decided to challenge her creativity by dealing only with the pure elements in art: the power of color, the strength of the value, the directional impetus of a line, the mystery of the unrecognizable form and the depth and the richness of texture. Yet while today she explores the world of abstraction in an attempt to evolve her own visual language, she also likes to keep alive her childhood love and romance with nature. She now works with watercolors and acrylics, after having worked with oils and airbrush.
